Chesapeake Bay RV Park, Gloucester VA 10/21/2012 - 10/27/2012

We should know better than to travel on Sunday!  Instead of following the GPS the day before, we took some "side roads" to make a wide birth around DC to get to Tyler's house, and ended up going about 60 miles further.  The GPS is set on the "fasted route" so she was not too happy with us for most of the trip.  I guess the next day when we left Tyler's the GPS was still pouting because we had a hard time following her (at least we can blame her!)  We took a couple of wrong turns (not believing the GPS) and then even got on a one-way street going the wrong way!  We were stopped in the middle of an intersection, on the wrong side of the road, and a police office passed us and paid us no attention!  We couldn't believe it.  So, we finally ran a red light to get on the right side of the road because we were not in the correct lane to trip the light!  Terry almost stopped the Journey and made me get in the driver's seat--but I was laughing too hard!

The day continued to not go too well when we got to the park.  We found a 30-amp site (they charge us $3/day for 50 amp sites) and pulled into it.  After I turned in our site # to the guard shack, the ranger told me about a site just down the road from ours that was a "free" 50-amp site.  When I told Terry, he decided he wanted that one so we moved.  I hated the site!  It was among a lot of annual people who rent their sites for a year.  They tend to be a little clickish and are not there lots of time, except for the weekends.  Well, Terry didn't want to move again, even when we realized the water didn't work at our site and he would have to fill our tank from the neighbor's faucet and then use out of our rig.  But, when we were unable to get satellite TV, he gave up and moved again!  It was not a good day!

We ended up with a terrific site, with lots of friendly neighbors all around us!

Chesapeake Bay Park is a great park.  This is the little store--I liked the ice cream cone in front.  Their hard ice creams cones were really good!

The lodge has a big outside pavilion attached and I was excited to learn that there would be a craft sale on Saturday and the park was expected to be totally filled because of all of the Halloween activities going on.

The park is right on the River, which feeds into the bay andthen into the Atlantic Ocean.  It has a nice fishing and crabbing dock.

We brought some little critters with us from the last park--stink bugs.  They kind of look like the bugs at home that we call fire bugs, but they are not red and are twice as big.  They don't bite or spread diseases, or anything, but they sure get into the rig and they are very friendly!  I have started getting them with a Kleenex and flushing them down the toilet because if I just through them outside, they make in right back in!

Terry make us a really cool flag holder at the last park just before we left.  So, we got out the solar lights we bought for it and put it up.  It looks really nice at night with the lights shining on it.

Well, a lot of the Halloween plans (plus the craft sale--no Scentsy) were cancelled because they decided to require a mandatory evacuation of the whole park the next day because of a big storm.  Hurricane Sandy was expected to hit shore by Monday and they didn't want 350+ rigs trying to get out of the park at the same time, with all of the other traffic there would be on the roads.  The kids all came trick-or-treating on Friday night and people partied most of the night!

We had to be out of the park by 4:00 in the afternoon, but we decided to try and be one of the first few to leave, after only six days of a three-week reservation.  There were still a few in front of us as we headed out to western North Carolina to our next park.  Thank goodness we were able to change our schedule around and get in.  I guess Hurricane Sandy is an uncommon storm this time of year.  We hope there will not be any more of these!  We had put off making a trip to visit Jamestown and Williamsburg, with all of the histroy there, until next week.  Now we will miss that, plus the trip we were planning to go over to Virginia Beach to see the Atlantic Ocean for the first time.  Oh well, mabe there is another trip to the East in our future sometime!
