Pilot Knob, Winterhaven CA 1/20/09 - 1/27/09

Pilot Knob is a park that is actually in Winterhaven, California, but it is only 10 miles from Yuma, AZ. We stayed a week there under our Coast-to-Coast affiliate program. It was only about 8 miles to go into Mexico, so that was our main reason for going there.

This is the lodge in the park, with a small swimming pool next to it. Russ and Louise ended up coming into the park with us, on a coupon for a free stay if they listened to their sales pitch to join Western Horizons Camping program. It is a similar program that we have with Thousand Trails. When they left for the meeting, we told them, "You don't have to buy anything." Well, they didn't listen to us, but we are really excited because now we can go to some of the same parks together!

My cousin Vicky and husband Ken were also in this park with us for a few days. Russ and Louise had had some bad luck with a tire on their trailer. The tire blew out and did quite a bit of dammage and actually tore a hole all the way through the floor of their trailer. Ken was such a big help with his knowlege of working with the sheet metal on airplanes, and they were able to patch the trailer using pieces of a plastic tubby--good enough to probably last until they get home in a few months to make the permanent repairs. Good job, guys!

We went with Russ and Louise to Mexico one day and had a good time getting our "drugs" and our vanilla. We had quite a list for our family for all of the stuff they wanted. Terry even bought me two really pretty gold chains and also a silver chain and bracelet. Those Mexican people can talk you into buying anything! It was fun. In this picture, we are standing in line to cross back over the border into Arizona. Sometimes this can be quite a wait in line, but it only took us about a half hour. It makes it pretty easy with our passports.

When we were in Emmett, we had talked to our financial planner, Karen, and she said she was going to be down in the Yuma area in January and she would give us a call and we could go have breakfast together. Well, she really did call! She and her Mom agreed to come to our park and let me fix breakfast for them. We had a really good visit and it was fun to seem them.

We had a couple of days of scattered rain while we were in Pilot Knob, which was quite refreshing. We looked out our big back window one day and saw this beautiful rainbow. It was actually a double rainbow, but it didn't show up on the camera that way. It was so big that I couldn't get the whole thing in one picture.
