Colorado River Oasis, Ehrenberg AZ & Golden Sun, Apache Junction AZ 3/3/11 - 3/17/11

After leaving Pio Pico in California, we headed to Arizona. We have been at the Colorado River Oasis Campground several times and really like it. It is on the Colorado River and is a nice campground. It is not a part of Thousand Trails, but we can go into it on a reciprocal program. It is close to Quartzite, so we got to go to the big flea markets there for a day. We also went to Parker where our friends, Ron and Sharon, camp for the winter and we got to visit with them.

One of the main reasons we went to Ehrenberg was to make a day trip to Mexico to get prescriptions. We had orders form kids and friends, so here is Terry standing in line to go through customs with his "purple" bags.

It is still a novelty to me in this area to have the "water stations" where everyone pulls up to fill their water bottles. Even when you go into restaurants to eat you have to buy bottled water. I asked for a glass of ice water one time and it was so bad that I could hardly drink it!

Our friends, Ken and Sandy, bought a house in Yuma. We got to see them and had a tour of their new "winter" home. It sure was nice and it was fun seeing them again. We know them from Emmett, but they moved from there several years ago and now live about 30 miles from Emmett.

From Ehrenberg, we went to meet up and begin traveling with Ron and Alice, Terry's brother, at Apache Junction, where we had been in December. Bob and Lolita, Terry's sister, were there for one night so we got to see them before they left. It started getting pretty warm while we were there and it seemed like the only shade we could find was behind the Condo, where we had several meals. While we were there, Ron went with us to Travis' home and we got to see part of Nic's soccer game and Travis' baseball game. It has been fun seeing so much of Travis and his family this winter.

We saw several beautiful sunsets from the park while we were there!

One of our favorite things about the Apache Junction area is shopping at the Superstition Ranch Market. The produce there is very, very reasonable. I ended up getting two cases of strawberry "seconds" for $2.00 (which we carried home about two miles on our bicycles,) so I made three batches of frozen strawberry jam and had strawberries left over to freeze whole!
