When we got to Countryside RV Resort in Apache Junction, AZ, the park was almost empty. By the first part of April, most of the snowbirds and RVers have gone north. There are usually no activities going on unless some of the members plan something together. The day we got there, our air conditioning went out. It quit last summer and after we got it fixed (a board had gone out) we used it very little on our trip back East. But, the temperatures in Arizona had gone up to the high nineties! We called the repairman and he determined the board was out again so he ordered another one. By that time, we were pretty uncomfortable with the heat--105 in the Journey in the afternoons! So, while we were waiting on parts, we went to Pinetop where my brother, David, was at his cabin doing some remodeling.
We traveled to Pinetop by way of Salt River Canyon, where we had not been before. It was pretty spectacular.
The Canyon actually looks kind of like a small Grand Canyon.
David and Kari have a really nice "cabin" on a golf course. Kari had planted some flowers a few weeks before and they were blooming. They added this porch to the side of their cabin and are changing where the front door is.
This is the back of their cabin, facing the golf course. This side is all windows and a sliding glass door.
Kari is really good at finding unique furnishings at yard sales and on the Internet. She found this really cute wooden tub. As long as they use it once in a while, it doesn't leak!
This is the master bedroom, up in the loft. It has a bathroom on the side, which David moved from the back of the room.
This is looking down into the living room from the open balcony of the master bedroom upstairs. David moved the stairs several inches and changed the landing at the bottom.
This is looking from the dining area into the living room. It is totally filled with all of the kitchen cupboards and appliances because David is moving a wall in the kitchen.
This wall is the one we came up to help him with. By moving it, the kitchen will be smaller, the laundry room will be moved (he already moved the bathroom from across the hall), there will be two bedrooms downstairs, instead of one, and there will be a new front door. Dave and Terry ended up just sliding the whole wall about three feet, after undoing it and moving the plumbing and electrical stuff.
We temporarily moved some of the cabinets back into the kitchen after the wall was nailed down. All of the cabinets on the right will be moved down, along with the sink, and the window will also be moved to be above the sink again. Dave is taking a break and having some strawberry shortcake we brought.
You can at least see the dining room table now, even though the range and a few more cabinets are still there. Terry is also taking a break and eating strawberry shortcake.
After measuring three or four times, David starts the hole for his new front door.
It looks good!
Every project needs a supervisor!
Finished door! The next project will be to remove the window right next to it before he leaves. He will take out the old dining room door and cover the hole with siding, but that project will be for another day. We had a great weekend with Dave. It was nice and cool--there was even frost on the golf course as we went for a walk around it at 7:30 in the morning! We will be anxious to go back next year and see it when all of the remodeling is done.
When we got back to Countryside, the board for our air conditioner had come in, but when the repairman installed it, it immediately short circuited again and went out! He determined that there must be a short in the line, and had to order another board! While we waited for that part to come in, we drove our car up to Utah to Sarah's house for JT's baptism. The day we get back, we will move a mile to our next park, Golden Sun, so, we will hopefully get the air conditioning fixed while we are there.
JT's birthday was the day we got to their home, so we got to celebrate with him.
A couple of days later, JT's dad baptized him and conferred him a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was a great day and we are very proud of JT and his decision to get baptized.
While we were at Sarah's we got to see Luke play a baseball game. He connected with the ball for the first time of the season (he hit a foul ball) and we got to see it!
Jenna had a soccer game the same night so we got to see her play, too. She is getting so grown up!
During the ball games, JT played at the playground. He is a little monkey!
Lyndee, our youngest grandchild, had fun at the playground, too.
I found a wiggle car at a flea market a month ago, in Texas, and got it out for the kids to play with. "Princess Lyndee" had fun on it.
Luke could really get it going!
Besides rabbits, chickens, goats, a gecko, two parakeets, and a hamster, Sarah's family had just gotten some bum lambs to raise. They have to bottle feed them every four hours now, and keep bottle feeding them for six weeks before they turn them out on their friend's pasture for the summer. They are planning on having lamb chops this fall! (They did sell their goats while we were there.)
